Naman Dhir has finally got the call he has been working towards for several years.
The 26-year-old Punjab-born cricketer has been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match home series against West Indies, earning his maiden call-up to the national 50-over side. His selection comes at an interesting stage of his career, after eye-catching performances in domestic cricket, the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup and the Indian Premier League.
India announced a 15-member ODI squad on September 16, with Shubman Gill continuing as captain and KL Rahul named vice-captain. Born on December 31, 1999, Dhir’s cricketing journey has been built largely through Punjab’s domestic system before Mumbai Indians gave him an opportunity at the IPL level. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has added another dimension to his profile.

He scored two first-class centuries in the Ranji Trophy, including a 134 against Saurashtra, and subsequently played an important role in Punjab’s successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign.
