Six kings slam postponed to december 2026 after deadly attacks in saudi arabia

The highly anticipated Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition in Saudi Arabia has been postponed following a series of deadly attacks in Riyadh, raising fresh concerns about the impact of the escalating regional conflict on international sporting events.

The tournament, which was scheduled to feature some of the biggest names in men’s tennis, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, will now take place from December 27 to 30, 2026, instead of its original October dates.

The decision comes just days before the event was due to begin. The postponement is a significant development for tennis fans who were looking forward to watching six elite players compete in one of the sport’s most lucrative exhibition tournaments.

Six kings slam 2026: new dates and players

The third edition of the Six Kings Slam was originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh on October 21, 22 and 24. It has now been moved to the final week of December, giving organisers additional time to address the challenges surrounding the event.

The six players named for the 2026 edition are:

  • Carlos Alcaraz
  • Novak Djokovic
  • Alexander Zverev
  • Alex de Minaur
  • Taylor Fritz
  • Learner Tien

The line-up brings together established Grand Slam champions and leading players from the current generation. Alcaraz and Djokovic are among the biggest attractions, while Zverev, de Minaur, Fritz and Tien add further depth to the field.

Unlike an official ATP Tour tournament, the Six Kings Slam is an exhibition event. It attracts considerable attention because of its star-studded line-up, substantial prize money and the opportunity to see leading players compete outside the regular tour calendar.

The postponement means fans will have to wait approximately two more months to see whether the event can proceed as planned in December.

Why has the Six Kings Slam been postponed?

Riyadh Season, the entertainment programme behind the event, cited organisational and logistical challenges in its announcement. Organisers said the decision followed an assessment of the potential impact of those challenges on the quality of the tournament and the audience experience.

Although the official statement focused on logistics, the postponement comes amid a serious deterioration in the regional security situation.

Saudi Arabia has faced a series of attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement. One of the most serious incidents occurred at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, where an attack reportedly caused fatalities and left hundreds injured, heightening concerns about travel and security in the country.

The attacks have also targeted Saudi energy infrastructure, increasing pressure on the kingdom as it deals with the wider regional conflict.

For a major international event involving players, support staff, broadcasters, sponsors and thousands of spectators, travel arrangements and reliable logistics are essential. Disruption to flights, uncertainty surrounding security and difficulties coordinating an international event can all affect preparations.

The tournament’s postponement therefore represents more than a change to the tennis calendar. It highlights the challenges facing major sporting events when regional instability affects the host country’s ability to deliver them as planned.

What makes the Six Kings Slam such a major tennis event?

The Six Kings Slam has established itself as a high-profile exhibition on the international tennis calendar. Rather than following the traditional structure of an ATP Tour competition, it brings together a small group of elite players for a short, commercially prominent event.

Its appeal lies in the quality of the participants and the prospect of seeing some of the sport’s biggest names compete against one another. For fans, a possible meeting between Alcaraz and Djokovic is particularly attractive, given their contrasting styles and status among the leading players of their generation.

The tournament also carries significant financial incentives. Previous editions have attracted attention for their substantial appearance payments and winner’s prize, helping the event gain visibility beyond the usual tennis audience.

Italy’s Jannik Sinner won the previous two editions, defeating Alcaraz in the finals in 2024 and 2025. However, Sinner is not among the six players announced for the 2026 tournament. His absence, alongside the revised dates, will be an important point of interest for followers of the exhibition.

With the event now scheduled for December 27-30, organisers will need to coordinate player availability, travel, venue preparations and broadcast arrangements around the revised timetable. Any further changes will depend on official announcements and developments in the region.

Saudi football fixtures also affected by the conflict

The disruption has extended beyond tennis. Several Saudi Pro League matches have also been rescheduled, including fixtures involving Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.

The league postponed the match between Al-Riyadh and Al-Hilal, as well as the meeting between Al-Ittihad and Al-Shabab. Both fixtures have been moved to December. Al-Nassr’s match against Al-Ahli has been rescheduled for March 2027.

The league cited logistical considerations when announcing the changes. The revised schedule adds to the growing list of sporting adjustments being made while the regional situation remains uncertain.

Football is not the only sport monitoring the situation. The Asian Tour is closely following developments in Saudi Arabia ahead of the PIF Saudi International, which is scheduled to take place at Riyadh Golf Club from November 18 to 21.

The possibility of disruption to other major events has also attracted attention, particularly with Formula 1 races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi on the wider regional sporting calendar. However, the Six Kings Slam postponement does not, by itself, confirm that either race will be affected.

What happens next for tennis fans?

For now, the key dates to remember are December 27-30, 2026. The Six Kings Slam has been postponed, not cancelled, and organisers have indicated that preparations will continue for the revised dates.

Fans should follow official tournament and Riyadh Season announcements for confirmation of match schedules, ticketing arrangements and any changes to the player line-up. Those who have already made travel or accommodation bookings should also check the relevant providers’ policies before making changes.

The coming weeks will be important in determining whether the event can return as planned. Organisers must balance the commercial appeal of the exhibition with the practical requirements of hosting an international sporting competition during a period of heightened regional tension.

The postponement of the Six Kings Slam is a reminder that even the biggest sporting events remain vulnerable to circumstances beyond the court. With Alcaraz, Djokovic and Zverev among the announced participants, the tournament still promises a compelling line-up if it goes ahead in December.
