Muthoot Fincorp becomes new title sponsor of Indian cricket until 2028, BCCI seals ₹150 crore deal

Muthoot Fincorp title sponsorship: Indian cricket has a new title sponsor for its home season, with Muthoot Fincorp securing the rights for the next two seasons. The deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will run until March 31, 2028, covering India’s home international and domestic cricket commitments.

The development comes just before India’s three-match ODI series against West Indies, which begins on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram. According to the latest report from The Economic Times, the agreement is worth up to around ₹150 crore, with Muthoot Fincorp set to pay approximately ₹4.3 crore per match.

Earlier reports had indicated a base price of ₹4.85 crore per match during negotiations. Cricbuzz reported that the final figure could be lower than the base price, and the latest reports now put the agreed per-match value at around ₹4.3 crore.

Muthoot Fincorp gets India cricket title rights

Muthoot Fincorp, a Kochi-based financial services company, will take over the title sponsorship rights previously held by IDFC First Bank.

The new partnership covers approximately 35 home international matches through March 31, 2028. The schedule is expected to include 10 Tests, 12 ODIs and 13 T20Is. The title sponsorship rights also extend to international and domestic matches played in India during the contract period, according to Cricbuzz.

That means the Muthoot Fincorp branding will become a familiar part of Indian cricket broadcasts over the next two seasons. For BCCI, the agreement also adds another major commercial partnership to an already strong sponsorship portfolio.

The partnership begins with the India vs West Indies ODI series. The first ODI will be played on September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram, making the opening game particularly interesting because Kerala is the home state of the Muthoot group.

How much will BCCI earn from the deal?

The money involved has attracted considerable attention.

When BCCI invited bids for the title sponsorship rights, the reported base price was ₹4.85 crore per match. However, the tender process did not produce the level of competitive interest that the board had expected.

Cricbuzz reported that August 13 was the deadline mentioned in the Invitation to Tender. With no serious bidders emerging through the competitive process, BCCI subsequently entered discussions with potential partners. Companies including Google Gemini, IDFC First Bank, Spinny and SBI Life were reportedly among those approached.

The situation eventually led to Muthoot Fincorp securing the title rights.

The latest Economic Times report says the finalized arrangement is for approximately ₹4.3 crore per match, slightly below the ₹4.85 crore base price, and puts the overall deal at up to ₹150 crore.

For comparison, IDFC First Bank, the previous title sponsor, had reportedly been paying ₹4.2 crore per match.

So while the headline figure of ₹4.85 crore was associated with the initial base price, the latest reported finalized figure is closer to ₹4.3 crore per match. That distinction is important when discussing the actual value of the sponsorship.

A busy two-year home season for India

Muthoot Fincorp is entering Indian cricket at a time when the BCCI’s home calendar remains packed.

The two-season agreement is expected to cover around 35 international matches in India. The reported breakdown includes 10 Tests, 12 ODIs and 13 T20Is.

India’s home season will feature several visiting teams, with West Indies among the first sides arriving during the new sponsorship cycle. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are also scheduled to tour India during the broader home calendar.

For Muthoot Fincorp, this creates repeated exposure across multiple formats rather than a sponsorship tied to just one short series.

The commercial partnership also comes at a time when BCCI has been expanding its sponsorship portfolio. Earlier in September, the board announced Campa, SBI Life and ChatGPT as Associate Partners for India Home Cricket for a two-season period running through March 2028. BCCI said the combined value of those three partnerships was more than ₹130 crore, representing a 44% increase over the previous cycle.

That gives some context to the scale of the commercial market surrounding Indian home cricket.

India vs West Indies series to begin new sponsorship era

The first match under the Muthoot Fincorp title sponsorship will be the opening ODI between India and West Indies on September 27 at Thiruvananthapuram.

The three-match ODI series will then continue on September 30 and October 3. The two teams are also scheduled to play a five-match T20I series as part of the West Indies tour of India.

The ODI series has already generated plenty of interest among Indian fans because senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remain part of India’s ODI setup. Shubman Gill will lead India in the series, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain.

The opening match in Thiruvananthapuram therefore carries an additional commercial angle. It will not only mark the beginning of India’s latest home series but also the start of Muthoot Fincorp’s title sponsorship association with Indian cricket.

What this means for Indian cricket

Title sponsorships are an important part of BCCI’s commercial model because they give brands visibility across television broadcasts, digital coverage, stadium branding and match-related promotions.

For Muthoot Fincorp, the association provides access to one of India’s biggest sporting audiences. For BCCI, the agreement ensures that its home cricket calendar continues to attract substantial commercial interest despite the reported lack of a competitive bidding process for the original tender.

The difference between the previous ₹4.2 crore-per-match arrangement with IDFC First Bank and the latest reported ₹4.3 crore figure is relatively small on a per-match basis. However, the value of the overall partnership becomes significant when spread across the approximately 35-match international calendar and the wider sponsorship ecosystem.

The next two seasons should therefore provide plenty of visibility for the new partnership.

For cricket fans, the change will be most noticeable from September 27, when India take on West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. For BCCI and Muthoot Fincorp, it marks the beginning of a commercial relationship that is scheduled to continue until March 2028.

As the Indian home season gets underway, all eyes will now be on the cricket as well as the new branding surrounding Team India.
