Virat Kohli’s heartfelt message for Harry Kane after Ballon d’Or 2026 win goes viral

Virat Kohli has won hearts on social media after congratulating his friend Harry Kane on winning the Ballon d’Or 2026. The former India captain praised the England and Bayern Munich striker for his resilience, hard work and honesty after Kane claimed football’s most prestigious individual award in London on October 26.

Kohli’s personal message quickly attracted attention from cricket and football fans, with the Indian superstar making it clear that Kane deserved the recognition after years of dedication at the highest level. The striker finished ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to secure the men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001.

The tribute stood out because Kohli went beyond simply congratulating the 33-year-old forward. His words acknowledged the journey behind Kane’s success, including the perseverance required to establish himself among the biggest names in world football.

Virat Kohli’s special message for Harry Kane

Kohli shared an emotional congratulatory message for Kane following his historic achievement. The Indian cricket star highlighted the qualities that have helped the Bayern Munich forward maintain his position among football’s elite.

“Harry my friend, you deserve every bit of this award for your resilience, hard work and honesty with which you’ve carried yourself through all these years playing football at the top,” Kohli wrote.

He continued by wishing Kane and his family well, adding that they must be proud of everything the England captain has accomplished.

“Really happy for you. God bless you and your family. They must all be very proud of you as you would be of your own journey. My best wishes always. Congratulations,” Kohli added.

The message resonated with fans because it reflected the mutual respect shared by two sporting icons from different disciplines. Kohli has established himself as one of cricket’s leading modern batters, while Kane has built a reputation as one of the most consistent goalscorers in international football.

Although the two have not frequently appeared together in public, their friendship has attracted attention whenever they have interacted. Their connection also highlights how sporting excellence can bring athletes from different countries and games together.

Why Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or 2026

Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph capped a remarkable 2025-26 campaign for the England captain. The Bayern Munich striker scored 73 goals for club and country, underlining his influence in front of goal.

His performances helped Bayern Munich secure domestic silverware, including the Bundesliga title and German Cup. Kane also delivered in European competition, scoring 14 goals in the UEFA Champions League as Bayern reached the semifinals.

The forward finished ahead of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who came second, and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who claimed third place.

Kane’s victory was particularly significant for English football. He became the fifth Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or, joining Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen.

The achievement also represented an important milestone in Kane’s individual career. Despite years of prolific goalscoring, major individual recognition of this scale had remained elusive. His move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich in 2023 opened a new chapter, and his continued performances in Germany strengthened his credentials.

Harry Kane thanks Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich

During his acceptance speech at the London ceremony, Kane reflected on the people and clubs that helped shape his career.

The England captain expressed gratitude to France Football for organising the event and acknowledged the difficulty of competing against so many outstanding players.

He also thanked his Bayern Munich teammates, crediting their competitiveness and support for pushing him to improve.

Kane reserved special appreciation for Tottenham Hotspur, where he joined the academy at the age of 11 and developed into one of the Premier League’s most prolific forwards.

“I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur as well. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Tottenham, for sure,” Kane said.

His comments underlined the importance of his formative years in north London, even after moving to Germany in search of new challenges and major trophies.

Kane also acknowledged the support of England fans, Bayern supporters and Tottenham followers, recognising the role supporters have played throughout his journey.

Kohli and Kane: respect beyond cricket and football

Kohli’s message added another memorable moment to Kane’s historic night. Both athletes have built their careers around consistency, preparation and a determination to perform under pressure.

For Indian cricket fans, Kohli’s tribute offered a glimpse of the relationship between two global sporting figures. For football supporters, Kane’s award marked recognition of a season in which his goals and contributions helped Bayern achieve success across competitions.

While debate over individual awards is inevitable, Kohli made his position clear: he believes Kane earned the honour through years of commitment and hard work.

Kane’s Ballon d’Or victory and Kohli’s heartfelt words have therefore become a talking point across sporting communities, bringing cricket and football fans together.
