East Zone had waited 13 long years for another Duleep Trophy title. On Thursday, that wait finally came to an end.

Even when the outcome was increasingly difficult for South Zone to change, Siraj continued to give everything he had.
The Chennai conditions were demanding, and the long final had already taken plenty out of the players. Yet Siraj bowled a continuous spell of nine overs, continuing to challenge the East Zone batters even when the result was effectively slipping away.

Cricket often celebrates the winner, but performances like Siraj’s remind us why first-class cricket remains so demanding. Players have to keep running in, bowling, batting and fielding even when the scoreboard is no longer in their favour.

Once the match officially ended, the East Zone players finally had the chance to enjoy what they had achieved.
