Virat kohli third, rohit sharma fifth as indian batters dominate 2026 odi run charts
Indian batting has been one of the biggest talking points of the 2026 ODI season, and the latest run-scoring charts make that even clearer. Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have all made their presence felt among the leading ODI run-scorers of the year.
Gill is currently sitting at the top of the list with 894 runs, while Kohli is third with 552 and Rohit Sharma is fifth with 512. That means three Indian batters are currently inside the top five for most ODI runs in 2026.
For Indian cricket fans, the numbers are particularly interesting because the three batters represent different stages of their careers. Gill has emerged as the leading run-getter and India’s current ODI captain, while Kohli and Rohit continue to contribute heavily with their experience and ability to produce big scores.
Shubman Gill leads the way
Shubman Gill has been in outstanding form in ODI cricket this year. He has scored 894 runs in 10 innings from 11 matches, averaging 127.71. His strike rate is also close to 120, showing that his run accumulation has not come at the expense of attacking cricket.
Gill’s latest performance against the West Indies pushed his numbers to another level. In the second ODI in Guwahati, he smashed an unbeaten 223 from just 133 balls as India successfully chased 406. The innings included 26 fours and eight sixes and became the fastest ODI double-century in terms of balls faced.
The 223 was also Gill’s second ODI double-century. He has now joined Rohit Sharma as the only Indian batters to score multiple double-centuries in men’s ODI cricket.
Before that knock, Gill had already scored a century against the West Indies in the first ODI, making 110 from 108 balls. His consistency has been one of the major reasons he has built such a sizeable lead at the top of the 2026 run charts.
Virat Kohli stays among the leading run-scorers
Virat Kohli is third on the 2026 ODI run-scoring list with 552 runs from eight innings. He is averaging 78.86 and has scored two centuries during the year.
Kohli produced one of his most memorable innings of the year against the West Indies in the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. He smashed an unbeaten 139 from 88 balls, helping India chase down 296 comfortably.
That innings also took Kohli past 15,000 ODI runs, making him only the second batter in men’s ODI history to reach the landmark after Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli followed that performance with 29 from 19 balls in the second ODI. His two recent innings against the West Indies have therefore added 168 runs to his 2026 ODI tally.
Rohit Sharma also enters the top five
Rohit Sharma occupies fifth place with 512 ODI runs in 2026. His latest innings was another reminder of his ability to turn a strong start into a match-defining score.
Against the West Indies in Guwahati, Rohit smashed 101 from just 75 balls. He reached his century in 75 deliveries and shared a massive 255-run opening partnership with Gill during India’s record chase.
The century was particularly significant for Rohit because it took his ODI career tally beyond 12,000 runs. He became the third Indian and seventh batter overall to reach the landmark in men’s ODIs, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli in an elite group.
Rohit’s 2026 numbers also show that he has remained an important part of India’s ODI batting line-up despite the emergence of Gill at the top.
India have three names in the top five
The current 2026 ODI run charts have a clear Indian presence at the top.
Shubman Gill leads the list with 894 runs, followed by England’s Joe Root on 573. Kohli is third with 552, Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee is fourth with 513, and Rohit Sharma is fifth with 512.
The gap between the two Indian veterans is particularly small. Kohli has 552 runs, while Rohit is just 40 runs behind him with 512.
Gill, however, has created a considerable gap at the top. His 894 runs are more than 300 ahead of Kohli’s tally, underlining just how productive his year has been so far.
There is also an interesting story behind Gill’s numbers. His 894 runs have come in only 10 innings, meaning he has crossed the 80-run-per-innings mark on a simple runs-per-innings calculation. His official batting average is even higher at 127.71 because he has remained unbeaten several times.
For India, having three batters among the top five is an encouraging sign ahead of the remaining ODI assignments. Gill’s form provides a new-age attacking option, while Kohli and Rohit bring years of international experience and a proven record in the format.
The West Indies series has also highlighted how dangerous India’s top order can be when all three are among the runs. In the second ODI alone, Gill scored 223* and Rohit made 101 as India chased down 406 with 39 balls remaining.
The 2026 ODI run charts could still change as the year progresses, but for now, India’s batting dominance is difficult to ignore. Gill sits comfortably at the top, Kohli remains among the leading run-scorers and Rohit has returned to the top five.
With more ODI cricket still to come, the race for the year’s leading run-scorer could become even more interesting.
