India’s women’s table tennis team delivered another commanding performance at the Asian Games 2026, defeating Pakistan 3-0 in their Group F clash on Monday and booking their place in the quarterfinals.
There was very little drama once the match got underway. India won all three singles matches in straight games, leaving Pakistan with no opportunity to force a fourth rubber. Sutirtha Mukherjee, Asian Games debutant Syndrela Das and Sreeja Akula were the players who completed the clean sweep for India.
The victory also maintained India’s unbeaten record in the women’s team event. After defeating Indonesia 3-0 in their opening match and then fighting back to beat Singapore 3-2, the Indian team finished the group stage with three victories from three matches.
Sutirtha Mukherjee sets the tone
India got off to a flying start through Sutirtha Mukherjee, who faced Pakistan’s Aleena Khan in the opening rubber.
Sutirtha wasted little time taking control of the contest. She won the first game 11-3 and continued her dominance in the second, winning it by the same score. The Indian paddler then closed out the match 11-4 to complete a 3-0 victory.
The first rubber lasted only around 10 minutes, underlining just how one-sided the contest was. Sutirtha’s victory gave India an early 1-0 lead and immediately put Pakistan under pressure.
For Pakistan, Aleena Khan had little room to settle into the match. The teenager was unable to put together a comeback against Sutirtha, who kept the rallies under control and finished the job without dropping a game.
Syndrela Das doubles India’s lead
The second rubber brought another straight-games victory for India.
Asian Games debutant Syndrela Das took on Kalsoom Khan and produced a composed performance despite the occasion. The 17-year-old Indian won the opening game 11-6 before extending her advantage with an 11-7 victory in the second.
With Pakistan needing a turnaround, Kalsoom attempted to fight back in the third game. Syndrela, however, stayed in control and won 11-5 to complete another 3-0 victory.
India were now just one win away from sealing the entire tie.
That meant there was no need for a fourth or fifth rubber.
Sreeja Akula finishes the job
Sreeja Akula then walked out for the third match against Fatima Khan with India holding a 2-0 advantage.
The Indian star made sure there would be no late twist.
Sreeja won the opening game 11-4 and repeated the scoreline in the second. Fatima needed something special to keep Pakistan alive, but Sreeja remained firmly in control.
The third game ended 11-5 in Sreeja’s favour, completing another 3-0 win and sealing India’s overall victory by the same margin.
The three rubbers produced a combined score of 9-0 in games for India. Pakistan did not manage to win a single game against the Indian trio.
India unbeaten in Group F
The Pakistan match was the third and final group-stage assignment for India in Group F.
The campaign had started with a convincing 3-0 victory over Indonesia. Sreeja Akula, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade helped India get off to a strong start, with the team completing the opening tie without losing the contest.
The second match against Singapore was considerably more difficult.
India found themselves in trouble after falling behind, but Sreeja Akula and Yashaswini Ghorpade helped the team fight back and secure a 3-2 victory. That comeback proved important because it kept India’s unbeaten run alive heading into the Pakistan clash.
India then produced their most straightforward result of the group stage against Pakistan.
Three matches, three victories and a place in the quarterfinals — that is how the Indian women’s team wrapped up Group F.
Pakistan’s difficult Asian Games campaign
Pakistan’s women’s table tennis campaign, meanwhile, ended without a win.
Before facing India, Pakistan had already suffered defeats against Singapore and Indonesia. According to Pakistan’s Dawn, the team did not win a single game across those two ties, and the 3-0 loss to India completed a difficult group-stage campaign.
Against India, the pattern continued.
Aleena Khan lost to Sutirtha, Kalsoom Khan was beaten by Syndrela, and Fatima Khan went down to Sreeja. Pakistan therefore finished the women’s team event without winning a match.
India looking to go further this time
India’s latest result is particularly significant because the team is now through to the knockout stage with plenty of confidence.
At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, India’s women’s table tennis team exited in the round of 16. This time, the team has already secured a quarterfinal place after topping its group with a perfect three-win record.
The current squad also has a useful blend of experience and youth. Sutirtha Mukherjee brings major international experience, Sreeja Akula is one of India’s leading players, while Syndrela Das has announced herself on the Asian Games stage with a confident performance against Pakistan.
The Singapore comeback showed that India can handle pressure, while the victories over Indonesia and Pakistan demonstrated the team’s ability to control matches from the beginning.
That combination could become important once the knockout rounds begin.
For now, though, India can enjoy a flawless group-stage campaign.
The numbers tell the story: three matches, three wins, one 3-2 comeback and two 3-0 victories.
And against Pakistan, India’s women did not give their opponents much time to settle. Sutirtha needed only about 10 minutes to complete the opening win, Syndrela followed with another straight-games victory, and Sreeja put the finishing touch on a 3-0 team triumph.
