Team India are preparing for a demanding tour of New Zealand that will keep them on the road for more than a month, with five T20 Internationals, five One-Day Internationals and two Test matches scheduled between October 22 and December 1, 2026.

The India vs New Zealand 2026 schedule promises an exciting contest across all three formats, with several major names expected to feature. Shreyas Iyer will captain India in the T20I series, while Shubman Gill will lead the side in the first three ODIs before Iyer takes charge for the final two matches. Gill will also captain India in the Test series.

The tour will provide opportunities for established stars such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, alongside younger players looking to strengthen their positions in the national team.

New Zealand will have home advantage, but India will arrive with a squad featuring a combination of experience, aggressive batting and a varied bowling attack. With 12 international matches on the itinerary, both teams will have plenty to prove.

India vs New Zealand 2026: complete tour schedule

According to the announced itinerary, the tour begins with the T20I series in Christchurch on October 22. The teams will then move through several major New Zealand cricket centres before the final Test concludes in Christchurch on December 1.

India vs New Zealand T20I schedule 2026

The five-match T20I series will run from October 22 to November 1.

  • October 22: 1st T20I – Christchurch
  • October 24: 2nd T20I – Christchurch
  • October 27: 3rd T20I – Wellington
  • October 30: 4th T20I – Auckland
  • November 1: 5th T20I – Hamilton

Shreyas Iyer will lead the Indian team in the shortest format. The squad includes explosive batting options such as Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, alongside all-rounders Shivam Dube and Axar Patel.

India’s bowling resources include Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav.

For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner will captain a squad featuring Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell. Their combination of power-hitters, seamers and spin options should make the series a competitive test for India.

India vs New Zealand ODI schedule 2026

The five-match ODI series will begin on November 4 and conclude on November 15. The matches will be played across Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton and Mount Maunganui.

  • November 4: 1st ODI – Auckland
  • November 7: 2nd ODI – Wellington
  • November 10: 3rd ODI – Hamilton
  • November 13: 4th ODI – Mount Maunganui
  • November 15: 5th ODI – Mount Maunganui

The ODI series carries additional importance as India continue building towards the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Shubman Gill will captain India in the first three matches, with Shreyas Iyer taking over for the final two. This arrangement gives the selectors an opportunity to assess leadership options while managing the workload of key players.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are among the experienced names in India’s ODI plans. Their presence will be important as India look to balance proven international performers with younger options.

The squad also includes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh.

New Zealand’s ODI group features Mitchell Santner, Will Young, Mark Chapman, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry.

The conditions in New Zealand could make the opening overs particularly important. Early movement for the fast bowlers may challenge India’s top order, while batters who settle in could make full use of the scoring opportunities available.

India vs New Zealand Test schedule 2026

The tour will finish with a two-match Test series from November 19 to December 1.

  • November 19–23: 1st Test – Wellington
  • November 27–December 1: 2nd Test – Christchurch

The Test series will be a major examination of India’s batting technique and bowling discipline in unfamiliar conditions. New Zealand’s seamers could play a decisive role, particularly if the pitches offer movement and assistance to fast bowling.

Shubman Gill will captain India in the longest format. The squad includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Test squad is another major talking point. His pace, accuracy and ability to generate movement make him a key figure in India’s plans. Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna provide additional pace-bowling options, while Kuldeep Yadav offers a specialist spin option.

Rishabh Pant’s availability remains subject to fitness clearance, making his condition an important factor to monitor before the series begins.
